Students in MHP’s afterschool enrichment programs at Great Hope Homes and Arcola Elementary Great Achievers Toward Outstanding Results (GATOR) Club used technology and creativity to share their knowledge and talents to celebrate Black History Month 2021. Great Hope Homes students researched important African-American leaders and shared what they found through on-line presentations. WATCH:
GATOR Club students shared history and quotes from notable African-Americans. They shared a song and put on a play called “The Dreamkeepers,” a reminder to keep the memory and philosophy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King alive. Then the students got a huge surprise: for the first time, they watched the video premiere of them performing an original song they developed with The Civic Circle, a nonprofit education group dedicated to empowering young students to understand and participate in democracy through music and the arts. Here is their original song, “We’ll Get There Soon.” ENJOY!
