Citi Foundation Awards $25,000 Grant For Halpine Hamlet
Funding Supports Preservation of 67-Year-Old Complex Near Twinbrook Metro
Citi Foundation awarded Montgomery Housing Partnership a $25,000 grant to expand its affordable rental housing development near the Twinbrook Metro station in Rockville, Maryland.
The Citi Foundation grant was awarded to MHP for pre-development costs associated with its planned rehabilitation of Halpine Hamlet, a 67-unit garden style apartment community near the Twinbrook Metro in Rockville. MHP purchased the 43-year-old complex in September 2009 for $5.9 million and began making repairs in January.
“Affordable housing is critically important,” said Reginald Exum, Citi Community Officer, “and we’re very glad to partner with Montgomery Housing Partnership to expand the affordable rental housing stock in Rockville.
“Citi is doing a lot to help people achieve economic empowerment, and we know that having a decent, affordable place to live is the foundation of building a secure future. We’re proud to work side-by-side with MHP to help make that foundation available to more families. This partnership will pay huge long-term dividends in terms of improving people’s lives.”
